Nina Stemme, Stuart Skelton, Lise Davidsen, and Hanna-Elisabeth Müller Highlight Philharmonie de Paris Fall 2021 Season

Philharmonie de Paris has announced its fall 2021 season, which will run from Sep. 8 until Dec. 23, 2021.

For the purpose of this article, we will focus on vocal works only.

Soprano Christine Goerke and tenor Klaus Florian Vogt perform Richard Wagner’s works alongside Andris Nelsons and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.

Performance date: Sep. 1, 2021

Soprano Lise Davidsen will perform Richard Strauss‘ “Vier letzte Lieder.” The rest of the concert consists of works by Unsuk Chin and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “Titan”. Klaus Mäkelä conducts the Orchestre de Paris.

Performance dates: Sep. 15 – 16, 2021

Soprano Hanna-Elisabeth Müller and mezzo-soprano Christa Mayer will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection.” Semyon Bychkov will conduct the Orchestre de Paris.

Performance dates: Sep. 22 – 24, 2021

Soprano Jennifer Holloway, heldentenor Stuart Skelton, and bass Mika Karès will present the First Act of Wagner‘s “Die Walküre.” In the rest of the program, Prelude and Liebestod from “Tristan und Isolde” and the Ouverture to “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” will be performed. Jaap van Zweden conducts the Orchestre de Paris.

Performance dates: Oct. 6 – 7, 2021

Soprano Elza van den Heever and bass-baritone Kwangchul Youn will interpret Alban Berg’s “Seven Early Songs” and Brahms’ “A German Requiem.” Simone Young conducts the Orchestre de Paris.

Performance dates: Nov. 3 – 4, 2021

Soprano Nina Stemme and baritone Gerald Finley will perform Béla Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s Castle.” In the rest of the program, Bryce Dessner’s Concerto for violin will be presented. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Orchestre de Paris. Pekka Kuusisto plays the violin.

Performance dates: Dec. 8 – 9, 2021

Finally, soprano Lucy Crowe will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in a concert. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the London Symphony Orchestra.

Performance date: Dec. 13, 2021
