
Neue Oper Wien Announces New Intendants
By Francisco SalazarThe Neue Oper Wien has named Anna Sushon and Alexander Kaimbacher as the new intendants.
They will take over the position on Jan. 1, 2026, succeeding the founding Intendant Walter Kobéra.
The Neue Oper Wien is an independent opera company without its own venue, founded in Vienna in 1990 by the French director Olivier Tambosi. Walter Kobéra has been its musical director since 1991 and its artistic director since 1993.
The repertoire consists exclusively of works from the 20th and 21st centuries and includes world premieres, Austrian premieres, and rediscoveries. In 2014, the Neue Oper Wien won the ARTE Audience Award and the Best Production Award at the Armel Opera Competition and Festival for its production of Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s Punch and Judy.
