National Strike Forces Opéra de Paris to Make Adjustments to ‘Œdipe’ Performance
By Francisco SalazarThe Opéra de Paris has announced a change to its Oct. 5, 2021 performance of “Œdipe.”
The company noted that due to the national and interprofessional strike that some of the company’s staff is involved in, the Enescu opera will be shown in a concert performance rather than a fully staged production.
As a result of the late notice and the inconvenience to its spectator, the company will offer vouchers that are worth 50% of the price listed on the ticket and will be valid for one year, usable for the purchase of tickets on any show. The company is also allowing exchanges for another performance.
Employees and the unemployed in France are holding a national strike on Oct. 5 to demand “urgent answers,” in particular on the question of wages. The strike is also in protest of rising energy prices, changing rules for unemployment, and retirement benefits, and reduced spending power. Multiple unions including the CGT, FO, Solidaires, FSU, Fidl, MNL, Unef, and UNL are participating.
“Œdipe” is set to star Christopher Maltman, Clive Bayley, Brian Mulligan, Vincent Ordonneau, Laurent Naouri, Nicolas Cavallier, Adrian Timpau, Yann Beuron, Ekaterina Gubanova, Clémentine Margaine, Anna-Sophie Neher, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Daniela Entcheva. Ingo Metzmacher conducts.
