Nathan Gunn & Lidiya Yankovskaya Headline Chicago Opera Theater’s 2019-20 Season

The Chicago Opera Theater has announced its 2019-20 season with the company presenting three productions and a world premiere. Take a look at what the company is set to offer.

The season will begin with a double-bill of Chicago premieres. The double bill will include “Everest,” by Joby Talbot with a libretto by Gene Scheer, and “Aleko” by Sergei Rachmaninov. Dylan Evans directs the production with music director Lidiya Yankovskaya conducting. The production will also include the A&A Ballet and Apollo Chorus.

Performance Dates: Nov. 16 & 17, 2019

The second production of the season will be Dan Shore’s “Freedom Ride,” the company’s second ever world premiere commission. The opera is set in New Orleans during the summer of 1961 when the Congress of Racial Equality was looking for volunteers to ride buses and trains to Jackson, Mississippi, risking life and limb to end segregation. The opera will be directed by Tazewell Thompson with Yankovskaya conducting

Performance Dates: Feb. 8, 14 & 16, 2020

Nathan Gunn stars in the David T. Little’s “Soldier Songs.” The solo work is set to be performed at the Edlis Neeson Theater at the Museum of Contemporary Art and will be directed by Ashley Tata. Yankovskaya will conduct the production.
