The National Hispanic Cultural Center in New Mexico will present “The Paños Prophecy” on Oct. 28, 2023.

The opera, by Nathan Felix, portrays the story of Francisco, a man in the New Mexico State Prison on the night of his release following 20 years in prison. The work explores his struggles to readjust to life in society and his relationship with his family in and out of jail.

The work will star Rachel Kobernick, Emily Anderson, Hope Willenbrink, Curtis Storm, and Gabriel Deyarmond.

The opera will be showcased as part of a program entitled “Prophets, Pyramids & Paños,” which also includes the exhibition “Into the Hourglass: Paño Arte” from the Rudy Padilla Collection.

Felix is a Mexican-American composer whose music has premiered in Bulgaria, Portugal, Spain, Japan, China, Sweden, Denmark, Mongolia, and the United States.
