Musica Viva NY to Present Great Romantic Composers

By Francisco Salazar

Musica Viva NY will present works by composers from three phases of German Romanticism: early (Mendelssohn), middle (Rheinberger), and late (Mahler) in a concert entitled “Great Romantic Composers.”

The Musica Viva NY choir will perform Rheinberger’s mass for double choir, interspersed by the movements of Mendelssohn’s last string quartet. The program will also feature Mahler’s “Rückert Lieder,” in a special arrangement by Gerhard Präsent for voice and piano quartet, with mezzo-sopranos Devony Smith and Chloë Schaaf leading the away alongside bass Erik Anstine, all soloists from the Musica Viva NY choir.

The concert will presented on March 8, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at The Brick Presbyterian Church in New York City.

The final concert in Musica Viva NY’s 2019-20 season is “Bachmaninoff: Spirituality and Beauty in Bach and Rachmaninoff.” This performance will take place on May 17, 2020 at All Souls Church, pairing Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil” with “Suite No. 4” for solo cello by Bach.
