Musica Viva NY Announces 2021-22 Season

Musica Viva NY has announced its 2021-22 season.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal performances.

First up will be “Songs of Struggle, Compassion, and Redemption” which will include music by Bach, Thompson, and Betinis. Among the pieces showcased will be Thompson’s “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” and the Cantata BWV 4 “Christ lag in Todes Banden.” The showcase, which will take place at All Souls Church will feature the Aeolus Quartet under the musical direction of Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez.

Performance Date: Jan. 23, 2022

Next up is “In Nature’s Realm,” which will include music by Sarah Hopkins, Dale Trumbore, Missy Mazzoli, Alec Roth, Gilda Lyons, and Dvorak. Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez conducts.

Performance Date: March 27, 2022

The season will come to a close with Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil” and his Symphonic Dances. Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez conducts and performs at the piano alongside Margaret Kampmeier.

Performance Date: May 22, 2022

“In many ways, we as an organization—and all of us as individuals and as a society—have been transformed by the colossal challenges and opportunities for growth we’ve encountered in the past year,” Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, Artistic Director said in a press release. “We are thrilled to be able to perform these concerts together in person, after such a long time of being apart.”
