Music of Remembrance to Spotlight Works by Jake Heggie & Gene Scheer

By David Salazar

Music of Remembrance has announced that it will present special new productions of two works by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer.

First up will be “For a Look or a Touch,” a work that addresses the Nazi persecution of members of the gay community. The production will be directed by Erich Parce and will star Jarrett Ott and Curt Branom.

Next up will be “Intonations: Songs from the Violins of Home,” which was premiered in March 2020. The work will feature violinist Mikhail Shmidt and mezzo-soprano Laura Krumm.

Finally, the company will end its 23rd season with “Endurance of Hope.”

“At a time when the pandemic has sent us on a voyage that none of us could have expected,” Artistic Director Miller stated in a press release, “our season’s theme is also one of journeys: journeys in search of safety and freedom, of identity, of hope in the face of daunting odds, and odysseys to new lives in new lands. Remembering these stories strengthens our resolve to prevent human tragedies from happening again.”

The season will be streamed on the company’s official website with exact details to be announced in the coming weeks.
