The Mogren Music Prize 2026 has been awarded to 26-year-old mezzo-soprano Rebecka Wallroth.
Wallroth, who is currently a member of the soloist ensemble at the Staatsoper in Berlin, will receive the prize sum of SEK 300,000 in recognition of her artistic achievements on Europe’s opera stages.
“As an opera singer you compete against the whole of Europe, but simply applying for a job can be extraordinarily expensive and a considerable financial risk,” said Wallroth, per an official press release. “Receiving the Mogren Music Prize means a great deal to me, as it allows me to continue developing in a highly uncertain but deeply meaningful industry.”
The jury cited Wallroth’s “profound musicality, brilliant technique, stylistic assurance and artistic radiance,” noting that she has made a name for herself “in fiercely competitive circumstances.”
“A vibrant cultural life is so important, both for our well-being and for the unique spaces it creates, where different thoughts and emotions can meet. Rebecka captivates her audiences with her intuitive performances and her ability to bring characters to life in a dynamic and authentic way,” added Tobias Theorell, Director of Opera at the Royal Swedish Opera and Chair of the nomination committee for the Mogren Music Prize.
The prize was presented on May 27 at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.
