Mezzo-Soprano Ema Nikolovska & Guitarist Sean Shibe Headline ‘Orlando’ at Princeton University Concerts
By David SalazarPrinceton University Concerts (PUC) will present mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska and guitarist Sean Shibe in “Orlando,” a theatrical concert inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel, on Oct. 27 at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall.
The hour-long program will be performed as part of the Performances Up Close series, in which audience members sit onstage with the artists. Nikolovska and Shibe, who are both making their Princeton debuts, take on works by Schubert, John Dowland, Bob Dylan, Thomas Adès, and Laurie Anderson, along with new commissions by Sasha Scott, Cassandra Miller, Linda Catlin-Smith, and Nahre Sol.
“Ema Nikolovska and Sean Shibe are both known for their fearless programming and collaborations,” said PUC Director Marna Seltzer, per an official press release. “When they speak about this program, their passion and imaginative spirits shine through. We can’t wait to experience what they’ve prepared for us. The Up Close format is the perfect way to take in this musical exploration.”
There will be two performances, one at 6 p.m. and another at 8:30 p.m. local time. A pre-concert Halloween mingle for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Maclean House. The event is part of the organization’s Do-Re-Meet series of social events and is co-sponsored by the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center at Princeton University. It will include games, a costume contest, door prizes, and an optional discussion of Woolf’s novel led by the PUC Graduate Student Ambassadors.
