Mezzo-Soprano Carol García Joins Gran Teatre del Liceu’s ‘Les Contes d’Hoffmann’

The Gran Teatre Del Liceu has announced that mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac has cancelled her participation in Offenbach’s “Les contes d’Hoffmann” on Jan. 19 & 31, 2021 in the role of La Musa/Nicklausse, due to health reasons.

As a result, mezzo-soprano Carol García will perform in her stead. García will join the cast that includes Adriana González as Stella; Rocío Pérez and Olga Pudova as Olympia; Ermonela Jaho in the role of Antonia; Ginger Costa Jackson and Nino Surguladze in the role of Giulietta; Aleksander Vinogradov and Roberto Tagliavini in the roles of Lindorf / Coppélius / Doctor Miracle / Capità Dapertutto; Francisco Vas as Spalanzani; Laura Vila as La veu de la tomba; and John Osborn and Arturo Chacón-Cruz in the title role.

Riccardo Frizza will conduct the production by Laurent Pelly.

Carol García recently performed the role of Charlotte in Massenet’s “Werther” at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima; the role of Rosina in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Teatro Regio di Parma; the role of Dorabella in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” at the Teatro Cervantes Malaga; and the role of Isabella in Rossini’s “L’italiana in Algeri” at the Opéra National de Montpellier, among others.

Stéphanie d’Oustrac is scheduled to return to the stage for the world premiere of “Mon amant de Saint-Jean” at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie in February 2021, before taking on the role of  Charlotte in Massenet’s “Werther” at the Opernhaus Zürich in March and April 2021.
