By David Salazar

In continuation of the 2019-20 Great Performances Series, PBS will present the Live in HD broadcast of “Akhnaten” from the Metropolitan Opera on Sunday, April 5, 2020

The broadcast will kick off at 12 p.m. EDT. The cast includes Anthony Roth Constanzo in the title role alongside J’Nai Bridges as Nefertiti, Dísell Lárusdóttir as Queen Tye, and Zachary James as Amenhotep III. The production is conducted by Karen Kamensek with Joyce DiDonato as the host for the telecast.

“Akhnaten” was one of the major hits of the Met Opera season, with general manager Peter Gelb even confirming the productions return in 2021-22. Of the production, OperaWire noted back in November, “The 2019-20 season is still young, but ‘Akhnaten’ undeniably rules at the Met and it may be some time before its audiences see anything of this divine quality.”

Next up on the PBS Great Performances from the Metropolitan Opera will showcase “Madama Butterfly,” followed by “Wozzeck,” “Porgy and Bess,” and “Agrippina.”
