Metropolitan Opera Announces Conductor Change for ‘Der Fliegende Holländer’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced  a conductor change for its 2022-23 revival of Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer.”

The company noted that Thomas Guggeis will make his Met debut replacing Jaap van Zweden.

Guggeis is the Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper Berlin and is set to make debuts at the Vienna State Opera and the Semperoper Dresden. He has conducted the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Frankfurter Museumsorchester, Dresdner Philharmonie, Essen Philharmoniker, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Bern Symphony Orchestra and the Boulez Ensemble.

“Der Fliegende Holländer” is set to star Elza van den Heever, Eric Cutler, Richard Trey Smagur, Tomasz Konieczny, and Dmitry Belosselskiy. The opera is set to be performed from May 30 through June 10, 2023.
