Melissa Voigt Returns to Sarasota Opera as Senior Development Officer

By Logan Martell

Sarasota Opera has announced that Melissa Voigt will return to the company as their Senior Development Officer.

Voigt previously joined the company in 2000, as Individual Giving Officer, and became Director of Development in 2002. During her time with the company, she spearheaded the $20 million capital campaign for the renovation of the historic Sarasota Opera House. Voigt left the company in 2009 to become Chief Development Officer for Girls Scouts of Southwest Florida, and was the Director of Development for Child Protection Center and the Van Wezel Foundation from 2013 to 2018.

In her new role, Voigt will develop relationships with high-level donors and institutional partners, as well as collaborate to supplement the stewardship of corporate partners and cultivate new gifts.

“It’s like I’ve gone around the world and come back home,” says Voigt. “I had some great opportunities to hone my fundraising skills in the human services sector, and now it’s nice to be back here behind the scenes and doing important work under the leadership of Director of Development Scott Guinn.”
