Measha Brueggergosman-Lee Headlines Opera Atelier’s ‘Zombie Blizzard’

By David Salazar

Opera Atelier will present “Zombie Blizzard” featuring Measha Brueggergosman-Lee.

The event is set for Jan. 24, 2025, at Koerner Hall.

The second half of the performance is headlined by the titular song cycle by Aaron Davis and Margaret Atwood. Brueggergosman-Lee performs alongside the Aaron Davis Trio and the Hannaford Street Silver Band. The work blends the “classical concert aria and jazz-influenced art song where Atwood’s lyrics tackle issues of sexism, humour, gender inequality, and grief.”

Meanwhile, the first half includes works by Davis, such as his “Shtetl Waltz,” “Earth Above Sky Below” and “Oseo,” but also Robert Fleming  and Owen Dodson’s The Confession Stone (The Songs of Mary)” and Abel Meeropol’s “Strange Fruit.”

Brueggergosman-Lee has performed with such organizations as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Washington’s Kennedy Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, Vienna’s Konzerthaus and Musikverein, and Madrid’s Teatro Real, among others.

“Zombie Blizzard” was previously showcased at the National Sawdust in NYC.
