Maria Teresa Leva Replaces Ainhoa Arteta At Gran Teatre Del Liceu

The Gran Theatre del Liceu has announced that Maria Teresa Leva will make her role debut as Cio-Cio San in “Madama Butterfly.”

The company announced Ainhoa Arteta was forced to cancel the first two performance on  Jan. 13 and 16 due to laryngitis. As a result, Leva will take over.

Arteta is scheduled to return for the Jan. 20 performance and the following performances on the 22 and 29.

Leva is a recognized Italian soprano who haas performed to acclaim at the Teatro alla Scala amd Teatro Regio di Torino. Among her repertory staples are Mimì in “La Boheme,” Liù in ‘Turandot,” Violetta in “La Traviata,” and Nedda in ‘Pagliacci.”

Leva joins Rame Lahaj, who is set to portray Pinkerton. Giampaolo Bisanti conducts the production.
