Marcelo Lombardero Named Artistic Director Ópera de Bellas Artes
By Francisco SalazarArgentine stage director Marcelo Lombardero has been named the artistic director of the Compañía Nacional de Ópera y del Estudio Ópera de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
He will take over the position beginning Jan. 1.
The news was announced by the Secretary of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza and the General Director of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), Alejandra de la Paz Nájera.
Lombardero’s new position reinforces the participation of the renowned Argentine artist in the promotion of opera in Latin America, contributing his vast experience in artistic direction and operatic management.
Lombardero studied voice and performed as a baritone in Europe and the United States where he interpreted such roles as Rigoletto, Macbeth, and Don Giovanni. He has been Artistic Director of the Teatro Colón and Teatro Argentino de La Plata. He is also co-founder of the Ópera Latinoamericana and creator of the Teatro Musical Contemporáneo. He has also director opera in Latin America and in Europe.
