
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Announces Cast Change for ‘Salome’

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of Strauss’ “Salome.”
The company said that Lidia Fridman will sing the title role of in the opera that will open the company’s 87th Festival del Maggio Fiorentino.
Fridman will replace Allison Oakes, who due to illness is unable to perform in the production.
Fridman recently performed in a production of “Anna Bolena” at the Teatro La Fenice and is set to perform Marie in “Wozzeck” later this season. She is also set to make her Wiener Staatsoper debut in “Norma.”
The soprano joins a cast that includes Nikolai Schukoff, Anna Maria Chiuri, Brian Mulligan, and Eric Fennell. Alexander Soddy conducts the new production by Emma Dante. Salome” opens April 13 and runs through April 27. The performance on April 13 will be broadcast live on Rai 3 and recorded for later television broadcast on Rai 5.
