By David Salazar

Lyric Opera of Orange County is set to present a Spanglish version of Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” this May.

The production, which will be conducted by Bruno Bastos do Nascimento, will feature Camila Lima as Gretel and Anna Caplan in her company debut as Hansel. Other cast members include Sonja Krenek as the mother and the witch with Jose Luis Maldonado as the father, Sandman, and Dew Fairy.

“We want to engage young audiences and inspire them to continue their theatrical play and imagination outside the theater,” said Dave Mancini who is providing interactive design concepts for the production.

The new translation was created by Diana Farrell.

The opera takes the stage on May 11 and 12, 2024 at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California. There will be a 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. performance on each day.
