By Francisco Salazar

The Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of Verdi’s “Macbeth.”

The company announced that due to personal reasons Roman Burdenko will no longer be able to sing the title role. As a result, Craig Colclough will sing the title role making his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut.

This is the second cast change for the company’s “Macbeth.” The company had originally announced Luca Salsi in the title role and was later replaced by Burdenko.

Colclough recently made his Metropolitan Opera during the 2019-20 season in the title role of “Macbeth” and has performed at the Opera Vlaanderen, LA Opera, Oper Frankfurt, and Boston Lyric Opera.

The bass-baritone is set to perform alongside Sondra Radvanovsky, Christian Van Horn, and Joshua Guerrero. Enrique Mazzola conducts the new production by Sir David McVicar.

“Macbeth” opens on Spet. 17 and runs through Oct. 9, 2021.
