The Lyric Opera of Chicago has updated the cast of Verdi’s “Macbeth.”

Roma Burdenko will make his Chicago debut in the title role replacing Luca Salsi, who was originally announced.

Burdenko is renowned at the Mariinsky Theatre, where he has starred in productions of “Il trovatore,” “La traviata,” “Un ballo in Maschera,” and “Simon Boccanegra.” He also performs regularly at the Bolshoi Theatre and has sung in Amsterdam, Berlin, Geneva, Zurich, and Munich, among other houses.

The baritone will join a cast that includes Sondra Radvaonvsky, Christian Van Horn, and Joshua Guerrero. Enrique Mazzola conducts the Verdi work.

“Macbeth” opens on Sept. 17 and runs through Oct. 9, 2021.
