Los Angeles Master Chorale Announces 2021-22 Season

The Los Angeles Master Chorale has announced its 2021-22 season.

The season kicks off with “Invitation,” which will be led by Grant Gershon and Jenny Wong. It will feature 48 voices and piano and includes music by Brumfield, Guastavino, Alcala, Esmail, Schütz, Plainchant, and Garrett, among others.

Performance Dates: Sept. 25 & 26, 2021

Next up will be Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil” led by Grant Gershon. It will feature 80 voices.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20 & 21, 2021

“Festival of Carols,” which will feature 62 voices, organ, and piano, will include arrangements of traditional carols.

Performance Dates: Dec. 4 & 11, 2021

Gershon will lead 48 voices, chamber orchestra, and soloists in Händel’s “Messiah.” There will also be a “Sing-Along” performance.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19 & 20 (Sing-Along), 2021

Kicking off 2022 will be “City Called Heaven,” featuring 62 voices, piano, and percussion. It will in-law music by Skye, Trumbore, McFerrin, Choi, Kahane, Shatin, Hailstork, Bocanegra, and Guillaume, among others. Wong and Gershon conduct.

Performance Dates: Jan. 30, 2022

The ensemble will then present works by Reena Esmail and Frank Martin, including the latter’s Mass for Double Choir, with 64 singers, piano, tabla, cello, and clarinet. Jenny Wong conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20, 2022

“Händel / Pärt” will feature music by the two composers as well as Jo Matsushita and Galina Grigorjeva. Gershon conducts 48 singers and a chamber orchestra.

Performance Dates: March 20, 2022

Rollo Dilworth will lead “United We Sing,” which includes music by  Brent Michael David, Rollo Dilworth, Melissa Dunphy, Sidney Guillaume, Rafael Hernández, Al McNeil, Alice Parker, and Mary Lou Williams. The concert will include 80 voices, piano, and percussion.

Performance Dates: May 8, 2022

The season comes to a close with Bach’s Mass in B Minor starring Julia Metzler, Reginald Mobley, Nicholas Phan, and Steve Pence. Gershon conducts the Music Angelica Baroque Orchestra.

Performance Dates: June 25 & 26, 2022
