“Modern Nature: The Prospect Cottage Diaries” will be presented by Living Productions and Bold Tendencies.
Following his HIV diagnosis and the death of his father, artist, and filmmaker Derek Jarman wrote “Modern Nature.” The diary captured his time spent living in Prospect Cottage on the Kent coast. “Modern Nature” explores how he found solace in the natural world by experimenting with growing a wide range of plants.
Jarman’s diary entries were adapted by Living Productions into a multi-media work featuring spoken word, original music and artwork, and footage from his Super 8 Films. Apollo5’s sopranos Penelope Appleyard and Clare Stewart, countertenor Nils Wanderer, and pianist Joseph Atkins will sing original compositions by Valgeir Sigurðsson, Max Richter, Kele Okereke, and Simon Fisher Turner interspersed by songs setting Jarman’s poetry to music by Donna McKevitt. James Dacre directs a company of actors.
“Modern Nature” will be performed at Barbican Hall on April 8, at 8 pm.
