Lisa Neher Presents ‘She Became Fire’

Composer and new music mezzo Dr. Lisa Neher stars in “She Became Fire.”

Themes of social justice, feminism, loss, and love, are interwoven throughout the program. The concert features the world premieres of ​”Riots” by Drew Swatosh and Carolyn Quick, and “Volume” also by Quick. Also on the program are works by Danielle Olana Jagelski, Neher and Bea Goodwin, Gabriela Lena Frank, Melissa Dunphy and Nikita Gill, and Gilbert Galindo and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

As soloist, Neher is joined at the piano by Nacho Ojeda and flutist Emily Duncan. Dr. Nehere has performed with Third Angle New Music, Really Spicy Opera, Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theatre Oregon, New Music Gathering, Resonance Ensemble, Experiments in Opera, Renegade Opera, and Big Mouth Society. She is a member of Portland Opera Chorus and President of New Wave Opera. Currently, she is Composer in Residence for the Beaverton Community Band.

The event is hosted by St. John’s in the Village Church, New York, on July 5, at 7 p.m.
