Leyla Gencer Voice Competition Announces 2024 Winners

The 10th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition in Istanbul, Turkey has announced its 2024 winners.

The first prize was awarded to Chinese bass HuanHong Li, while the second prize was awarded to Turkish soprano Nazlıcan Karakaş. Finally, the third prize was awarded to Ukrainian soprano Maria Knihnytska.

Karakaş was also awarded the Leyla Gencer People’s Award and the La Scala Theatre Academy Special Award. Meanwhile, Li was awarded the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Special Award and the Deutsche Oper Berlin Special Award.

Mexican soprano Fernanda Allande won the Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artists Programme Special Award and Georgian soprano Anna Imedashvili took home the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Special Award.

Mexican Soprano Jennifer Mariel Velasco won the Naples San Carlo Theater Special Award (Surprise Award).

The jury was led by Stephane Lissner, Ilker Arcayurek, Viviana Barrios (Associate Artistic Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin), Alessandro Galoppini (Casting Director of La Scala Theatre), David Gowland (Jette Parker, Artistic Director of the Young Artists Programme, Royal Opera House), Badri Maysuradze (Tenor, Artistic Director of Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet), and Carlo Tenan (Artistic Director and Permanent Conductor of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra).
