By Francisco Salazar

Leo Nucci has been announced as the 2023 Piccini Prize winner.

The legendary baritone will be awarded the prize at the Riflessi del Garda Festival on Lake Garda on July 8, 2023.

The Piccinni Prize is a prestigious award established by the Niccolò Piccinni Fund in 1967, at the behest of the descendants of Louis Alexandre Piccinni, grandson of composer Niccolò Piccinni.

This year’s ceremony will be part of the Piccinni Gala, an evening concert featuring young talents within the international opera-symphonic scene who will be called upon to interpret rare scores by the 18th-century composer. Soloists will include Michela Dellanoce, Jessica Pantarotto, Jinwook Namgoong, and Gledis Gjuzi.

The yearly award aims to reward creativity, resourcefulness, seriousness and high responsibility at an international level. Throughout the history of the award, the prize has been given to such luminaries as Carlo Bergonzi, Franco Corelli, Franco Zeffirelli, Leyla Gencer, Joan Sutherland, and Georges Prêtre. Last year Carmela Remigio was the recipient.
