LA Opera Releases Statement Regarding Protests
By Francisco SalazarThe LA Opera has released a statement regarding the protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The company said, “We know that many of you have been following the news about recent protests and law enforcement activity in Los Angeles. While we have not been directly impacted by protest or law enforcement activity, we are in contact with city officials and are awaiting an update on the imposed curfew. While this is a rapidly changing situation, at this point, all performances are planned as originally scheduled, but we will keep you posted if that changes.”
It added, “If you have tickets to an upcoming performance, you can exchange them for free online or by calling our box office. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Like you, our thoughts are with the greater Los Angeles community and especially with those who have been directly impacted. We look forward to seeing you soon.”
The LA Opera is currently presenting a production of “Rigoletto” featuring Lisette Oropesa and Quinn Kelsey.
The LA protests erupted after ICE agents raided several city locations to arrest people allegedly involved in illegal immigration to the United States and other violations. The protests led President Trump to send the National Guard as well as the Marines, creating chaos and leading to the arrest of multiple people. Additionally, multiple law enforcement officers and protesters have been injured. Governor Gavin Newsom condemned Trump’s actions in sending the National Guard and has been locked in a war of words with the president.
