La Comunidad de Madrid Approves 11 Million Euros for Cultural Foundations

By Francisco Salazar

The Comunidad de Madrid has approved 10.7 million Euros for cultural foundations as a relief from the economic crisis caused by coronavirus.

The fund approved will give 3.8 million to the Teatro Real foundation, 1.75 million for Teatro La Abadía foundation, 1.75 million to the Cinema and audiovisual foundation in Madrid (Fundación Escuela de Cine y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid (ECAM)) and 3.42 millionto the Orchestra and chorus of Madrid.

The money distributed represents all non-for-profit cultural sectors including opera, cinema, theater, and music.

The announcement came as the minister of culture and sports continues to seek out help from the government to ensure the future of the sports and INAEM, the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music in Madrid, which were paralyzed due to the coronavirus.

The Teatro Real closed earlier this month canceling a number new productions and leaving numerous musicians jobless.
