Kristine Opolais, Aleksandra Kurzak, Charles Castronovo & Rame Lahaj Lead Opera Wroclaw’s 2021-22 Season

Poland’s Opera Wroclaw has announced its 2021-22 season featuring new productions, numerous debuts, and star-studded casts. Here is a look at the new season.

New Productions 

The season opens in a new production of Puccini’s “Tosca” directed by Michael Gieleta. Lianna Haroutounian, Giorgi Sturua, and Ambrogio Maestri lead the first cast and Ewa Vesin, Tadeusz Szlenkier, and Mikołaj Zalasiński leading the second. Rafał Bartmiński, Jacek Jaskuła, and Radosław Żukowski join Vesin in the Spring. 

Performance Dates: August 27-Sept. 5, 2021 & April 8-24, 2022

Aleksandra Kurzak lead Weber’s Der Freischütz” with Hanna Sosnowska, Alec Carlson, and Dariusz Machej in a new production by Cezary Tomaszewski. The second cast stars Johanni van Oostrum, Maria Rozynek-Banaszak, Rafał Bartmiński, and Jakub Michalski. 

Performance Dates: Oct. 15-24, 2021

Massenet’s “Manon” will get a new production by Waldemar Zawodziński with Ekaterina Siurina, Charles Castronovo, and Szymon Mechliński leading the first cast and Hanna Sosnowska, Rame Lahaj, and Mariusz Godlewski in the second cast.

Performance Dates: March 26-April 3, 2022

André Heller Lopes directs Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” with a cast that includes Joanna Zawartko, Krzysztof Bączyk, and  Maria Rozynek-Banaszak. The second cast will star Adam Kutny, Kamila Dutkowska, Paweł Horodyski, Aleksandra Łaska, and Zuzanna Nalewajek.

Performance Dates: May 20-29, 2022

Michał Znaniecki directs Verdi’s “Don Carlo” with a cast that includes Kristine Opolais, Ivan Tomašev, Hovhannes Ayvazyan, Marcin Bronikowski, Wołodymyr Pańkiw, and Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska. The second cast will star Matthew Rose, Otar Jorjikia, Mariusz Godlewski, Grzegorz Szostak, Maritina Tampakopoulos, and Bernadetta Grabias. 

Performance Dates: June 17-26, 2022

Mark Grey’s “Frankenstein” makes its Polish debut in Alex Ollé’s production with Scott Hendricks, Topi Lehtipuu, Eleonore Marguerre, Andrew Schroeder, Aleksander Zuchowicz, Tomasz Rudnicki, Maria Rozynek-Banaszak, and Jacek Jaskuła. 

Performance Dates: August 19 & 21, 2022

Revivals

Verdi’s “Nabucco” returns to the stage Mikołaj Zalasiński and Krzysztof Szumański sharing the title role, Karina Skrzeszewska and Anna Lichorowicz-Erdei as Abigaille, and Grzegorz Szostak and Wołodymyr Pańkiw as Zaccaria. The cast is rounded out by Łukasz Załęski, Katarzyna Haras, Aleksander Zuchowicz, and Aleksandra Opała. 

Performance Dates: Sept. 10-18, 2021

Piotr Buszewski leads Bizet’s “Les Pêcheurs de perles” with Szymon Komasa, Hanna Sosnowska, Hubert Zapiór, and Maria Rozynek-Banaszak.

Performance Dates: Sept. 17-24, 2021

Hubert Zapiór sings the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Jakub Michalski, Maria Rozynek-Banaszak, Aleksandra Opała, Jędrzej Tomczyk, Hanna Sosnowska, Siergei Borzov, and Jerzy Butryn. The second cast will be lead by Tomasz Rudnicki, Ewa Majcherczyk, Aleksandra Opała, and Ted Black.

Performance Dates: Oct. 1 & 3, 2021 & Jan. 7 & 9, 2022

Mariusz Godlewski, Wiktor Gorelikow, Elżbieta Kczmarzyk-Janczak, Aleksandra Kubas-Kruk, Jacek Jaskuła, Joanna Moskowicz, Katarzyna Haras, Dorota Dutkowska, and Edward Kulczyk star in a concert eprformance of “Pułapka.” 

Performance Date: Oct. 9, 2021

Moniuszko’s “Halka” returns with Joanna Zawartko in the title role, Paweł Skałuba, Dariusz Machej, and Katarzyna Haras.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29-Nov. 13, 2021

Anna Lichorowicz-Erdei, Hanna Sosnowska, Barbara Bagińska, Jędrzej Tomczyk, and Paweł Horodyski perform Mozart’s Requiem with Bassem Akiki conducting. 

Performance Date: Nov. 6, 2021

Andrei Danilov sings the title role of Gounod’s “Faust” with Eleonore Marguerre, Katarzyna Haras, Jadwiga Postrożna, Daniel Mirosław, and Szymon Komasa.

Performance Dates: Nov. 19-Dec. 4, 2021

Performance Date: Nov. 28, 2021

Barbara Bagińska, Dorota Dutkowska, Katarzyna Haras, Jacek Jaskuła, Elżbieta Kaczmarzyk-Janczak, Eliza Kruszczyńska, Maciej Krzysztyniak, Edward Kulczyk, Anna Lichorowicz-Erdei, Jakub Michalski, Aleksandra Opała, Łukasz Rosiak, Maria Rozynek-Banaszak, Tomasz Rudnicki, Hanna Sosnowska, Jędrzej Tomczyk, and Aleksander Zuchowicz star in the silver concert celebrating the New Year. There will also be gala concerts throughout the month.

Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” will be led by two casts with the first starring Sonia Warzyńska-Dettlaff, Katarzyna Haras, Maria Rozynek-Banaszak, Jędrzej Tomczyk, Paweł Horodyski, and Tomasz Rudnicki. The second cast includes Aleksandra Łaska, Zuzanna Nalewajek, Hanna Okońska, Paweł Trojak, and Dariusz Machej.

Performance Dates: Feb. 4-13, 2022

Adriana Ferfecka and Sonia Warzyńska-Dettlaff headline Puccini’s “La Boheme” with Piotr Buszewski and Rame Lahaj as Rodolfo, Maria Rozynek-Banaszak and Hanna Sosnowska as Musetta and Adam Zaremba and Szymon Mechliński as Marcello.

Performance Dates: March 3-12, 2022

Maria Rozynek-Banaszak performs a recital concert under Bassem Akiki.

Rossini’s comic masterpiece “La Cenerentola” takes the stage with Aleksandra Opała in the title role, Jacek Jaskuła, Jędrzej Tomczyk, Tomasz Rak, and Tomasz Rudnicki.
