Korean National Opera to Present ‘Tannhäuser’

The Korean National Opera will present “Tannhäuser” starting on Oct. 17, 2024.

The performances will take place at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater and run through Oct. 20, 2024. This represents the first time that Korean audiences will see the opera performed in its original language; it was previously showcased 45 years ago in in a Korean translation.

For the occasion, the company has brought in conductor Philippe Augin, who led a Ring production for the first time in China at the Beijing International Music Festival. Jonah Kim directs the production.

The opera stars Heiko Werner and Daniel Frank in the title role.

There will also be a digital presentation of the production via the “KNOmyOpera” streaming platform and NaverTV.

The company also revealed that it is presenting a curated Wagner series that will feature “Tristan und Isolde” with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2025.
