Tenor Piotr Beczala announced on his Facebook profile that he will not be able to perform in tonight’s presentation of Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the Wiener Staatsoper due to a lingering cold.

Heldentenor Klaus Florian Vogt will perform in his stead. Vogt will join a cast that includes Ain Anger, Cornelia Beskow, Egils Silins, Linda Watson and Boaz Daniel.

Valery Gergiev will conduct a production by Andreas Homoki.

Klaus Florian Vogt just came off the run of “Lohengrin” at the Staastoper Hamburg. He has recently performed the role of Paul in Korngold’s “Die Tote Stadt” at the Staatsoper Hamburg and Teatro alla Scala, Florestan in Beethoven’s “Fidelio” at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and Semperoper Dresden, role of Walther von Stolzing in Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Bayreuther Festspiele, and the title role in Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” at the Bayerische Staatsoper, among others.

Beczala is still set to finish the run of “Lohengrin” that continues on January 12, and will end on January 19.
