The Staatsoper Stuttgart has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Otello.”

The company said that Matthew Polenzani will no longer sing the title role due to personal reasons. As a result, Marco Berti will replace him on May 18, 21, 25, and July 6, 9, 16, and 18, 2025.

Berti has performed the role of Otello in Bari and Coruna. He is well-known for his Verdi roles and has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Arena of Verona, and Palau de les Arts, among others.

Berti will join a cast that includes Joseph Tancredi, Esther Dierkes, Olivia Johnson, and Daniel Mirosław. Stefano Montanari conducts the new production by Silvia Costa.
