The Hungarian State Opera has announced an upcoming run of Offenbach’s “Les contes d’Hoffmann.”

These performances of the famed Offenbach work will be the first at the opera house in 25 years.

The opera will have two casts, and soprano Klára Kolonits will perform the four heroines alongside Péter Kálmán as four villains, Viktória Mester in the roles of La Muse / Nicklausse, and Boldizsár László in the title role.

The second cast features four different sopranos in the role of four heroines – Réka Piroska Jónás as Olympia, Lilla Horti as Antonia, Zsuzsanna Ádám as Giulietta, and Éva Bernáth as Stella, alongside Zoltán Nyári in the title role. Two casts will be rounded by Tibor Szappanos, Géza Gábor, Bence Pataki and András Kőrösi.

Gergely Kesselyák conducts a production by Kriszta Székely with stage design by Nelli Pallós.

The opera opens with a big premiere on Dec. 4, 2021 with Kolonits, Kálmán, and László leading the cast.
