Kentucky Opera Extends CEO, Announces New Board Chair

By David Salazar

Kentucky Opera has announced the extension of CEO Barbara Lynne Jamison. She will lead the company through 2028.

Jamison joined the company as General Director and CEO in 2018. Prior to her stint with the company, she was at the Seattle Opera for nearly 14 years as Director of Programs and Partnerships.

“Barbara’s leadership and fiscal responsibility have brought the company through a turbulent period, and as a result, our company is on sure footing. We are thrilled that she agreed to stay at Kentucky Opera for an extended term,” said outgoing Board Chair Matthew Hamel at the Annual Meeting with trustees, staff, patrons, and invited guests.

Additionally, the company revealed that it had elected Rolandas T. Byrd as its new Vice Chair.

“I’ve believed in the power of the arts ever since I played an instrument as a child. I’ve seen the impact that Kentucky Opera programs can have, and I’m proud to support the company’s vision of centering our community in our work,” Byrd noted.

Meanwhile, Danail N. Kelisakiev was named Chair of the Board. Finally, the company welcomed two new trustees – Renée Campbell, Ed. D and Kyllee Marcy. Campbell was the President and CEO of Wesley House Community Services while Marcy is an Investment Advisor at Legato Financial Group.

The Kentucky Opera season opens on Oct. 6 with a performance featuring baritone Jorell Williams and pianist Taylor Burkhardt.
