Kentucky Opera Announces Major Leadership Changes

By David Salazar

Kentucky Opera has announced two major leadership changes.

First, the company announced that Peggy Kriha Miller will serve as its Interim General Director and CEO, succeeding Barbara Lynne Jamison, who is departing the company to take on the role of General Director and CEO of Opera Colorado, effective August 1, 2025. The goal was initially for Jamison to stay on until 2028, as per a contract extension she was given in 2024.

Miller previously held the positions of General Director and CEO at Opera Columbus and Virginia Opera. She has also performed as a professional singer for 25 years. She will hold the position while the company initiates a search for a permanent General Director and CEO.

The company also announced that Sarah Bushman has been appointed the new Director of Advancement. She is a mezzo-soprano who has also worked in international development, where she led a $12 million portfolio at a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization. In her new role, she will lead the Kentucky Opera’s development and marketing strategies, donor engagement, and communications. She will also work with the General Director & CEO to build a strong culture of philanthropy and support.

“With Peggy and Sarah stepping into these roles, we are well-positioned to carry forward our mission and connect even more deeply with our community,” Board Chair Matthew E. Hamel said per an official press release. “We are grateful for Barbara Lynne Jamison’s leadership and excited for what’s ahead.”
