President Donald J. Trump has announced, via Truth Social, that The Kennedy Center will be closed.

Per the President’s weaving statement, the building will be closed for “safety reasons, and so that it can begin the process of Reconstruction. The closing will take place immediately.

The President noted that “the Renovation and Reconstruction, which is a very large and complex job,” would not be able to commence “until such time as the D.C. Circuit Rules on the Board’s approved name.” He noted that if the ruling was a negative one (if he was not able to fulfill his year-long quest to put his name tag on the building), then “the Reconstruction and Renovation of The Kennedy Center will not take place.” He further appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn the recent federal ruling that he cannot put his name on the building.

Trump also noted that he raised “17 Million Dollars” to keep the Performing Arts Center “afloat.” He also thanked readers of his post for their attention to this matter.

This is the latest twist and turn in the Kennedy Center naming saga that is fast-becoming the defining cultural imprint of Trump’s second term. Earlier in the day, a federal judge blocked Trump’s mission to put his name on the center, noting, “Simply put, Defendants cannot install memorials for President Trump or anyone or anything else at the Kennedy Center without Congress’s blessing.”

Despite his claims of being a champion for the arts, Trump’s administrations (both in his first term and second term) have been proponents of eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts from his federal budget.

While the President is preoccupied with whether his name gets placed on a building his government has shut down (after alienating or decimating the major cultural and creative organizations that made it function), the U.S. remains in an active war with Iran and the Strait of Hormuz’s status remains uncertain. The price of gas, which is over $4 per gallon, has gone up 40 percent since President Trump launched said war with Iran. Moreover, grocery prices for the average American continue to go up under Trump thanks to his tariffs.
