A portion of the Kennedy Center’s Grand Foyer collapsed after a storm.

The Kennedy Center’s official social media announced the news stating, “Another warning we can’t ignore. A section of the Grand Foyer ceiling collapsed after this week’s storms. Thankfully no one was hurt. Decades of deferred maintenance made this inevitable. Chairman President Trump has been right: America’s cultural center needs to close, renovate, and be restored—now.”

As a result, the Grand Foyer will remain restricted to visitors. However, the rest of the main building is expected to reopen Saturday.

In a statement Kennedy Center spokesperson Roma Daravi used the news to push Trump and the board’s renovation plan stating, “There is no legitimate reason to further halt the renovations‼️The longer the delay, the worse the infrastructure gets‼️”

She also lambasted the press for not reporting the news stating, “The Kennedy Center ceiling collapsed, yet the Washington Post, the New York Times, The Atlantic, Reuters, AP, and USA Today— the list goes on — are nowhere to be found. 👀 Absolutely insane lack of journalistic integrity… the mainstream media are ignoring this breaking news bc it doesn’t fit their biased agenda that everything is fine & dandy at TKC. The reality is, the place is falling apart and  Donald Trump wants to fix it.” 

The news comes after a judge delayed the renaming of the Kennedy Center and also comes days after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick inferred that the Kennedy Center would eventually be demolished. It also comes after the board, voted on August 13 to add an inscription below the Kennedy Center’s sign that says the venue was “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump.” The board also intends to add another reference to Trump if an endowment reaches $100 million is reached. The center also plans to rename the physical site the building it sits on in honor of Trump.
