Kennedy Center ‘Abruptly’ Cancels Gay Men’s Chorus Concert

By Francisco Salazar

The Kennedy Center has canceled The Gay Men’s Chorus concert on May 21.

Jeffrey Weisner, a member of the National Symphony Orchestra, took to social media and said, “We were scheduled to perform for the first time with Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington On May 21st as part of World Pride in Washington DC 2025. The concert was abruptly canceled without explanation and removed from the KC website. However, they forgot to scrub it from the search engine. Screenshots attached of the KC calendar and the search results. I know about this only because my husband Silvio is in the Chorus and was there when they were informed.”

He added, “This post is for any LGBT folks who think that the Trump admin isn’t targeting our entire community. Expect moves to remove us from antidiscrimination laws, plus lawsuits aimed at giving the Supreme Court the chance to overturn decisions that gave us rights.”

This is the latest event to be canceled by the Kennedy Center since the Trump takeover. The show “Finn,” which could be read as a metaphor for the LGBTQ+ experience, was also canceled.

On Feb. 12, President Trump took over as Chairman of the Kennedy Center vowing to end the “wokeness” of the shows presented at the center. He has also vowed to ban Pride flags from flying over U.S. embassies and federal buildings.
