By David Salazar

Sarasota Opera has received a $50,000 grant from the Selby Foundation to assist in purchasing seven new pianos.

The funds will help Sarasota Opera procure three baby grand pianos and four upright pianos. Per a press release, two of the three new instruments will replace several that have been damaged by humidity and two decades of usage. The pianos are designed by Steinway & Sons.

“Sarasota Opera is grateful for the long-time support of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation. The instruments this grant will fund are important to creating the wonderful opera productions for which the company has become renowned,” said Richard Russell, General Director of Sarasota Opera, per an official press release.

The two organizations have had a relationship since 1955.
