By David Salazar

The “Juilliard Pride Songbook” is set to make a comeback this May.

On May 8, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. the institution will showcase a program of premieres written by seven LGBTQIA+ Juilliard composers. The program will open with Conrad Cummings “Love Stories,” performed by tenor Colin Aikins and pianist Luis Villarreal Lozano. Then, mezzo-soprano Lauren Torey and pianist Michele Wong will take on “Event Horizon,” a piece by Elise Winklers. Aikins and Villarreal Lozano return for Lance Horne’s “Fragments,” before countertenor Felix Aurelius joins Wong for Amelia Brey’s “The Letting Go.”

The program continues with the first showcase of Joseph Rubinstein’s “Queer Encounters,” as performed by tenor Jack Hicks and pianist Shaobai Yuan. Torey returns with pianist Michael Skowronek for Anne Qian Wang’s “Cargo of Joy.” Closing out the show is “Laura Karpman’s “I Used to Visit all the Very Gay Places.” Performers include soprano Scarlett Jones, mezzo-soprano Kate Morton, and pianist Amber Shere.

There will also be a pre-concert talk slated for 6:30 p.m., hosted by Brian Zeger.
