Joseph Parrish to Headline YCA Performance at Merkin Hall

Bass-baritone Joseph Parrish is headed to Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Hall as part of the Young Concert Artists (YCA) series.

The recital, set for March 25, 2025, will feature Parish alongside the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir under Artistic Director Michele Fowlin. The performance includes music by Mahler, Moses Hogan, Schubert, Harry T. Burleigh, Brahms, spirituals, and the New York Premiere of YCA Composer-in-Residence Alistair Coleman’s “Psalm.” Pianist Francesco Barfoed will accompany the performers.

“I am interested in exploring the common threads that exist between the folk music of African-American and German people. This program highlights African-American art songs, German Lieder, Negro Spiritual,s and Lieder with spiritual themes, showcasing these different expressions of our shared humanity,” Parrish said of his program, per the official website for the performance.

Parrish holds the Lindemann Vocal Chair. The concert commences at 7:30 p.m. local time.
