Joburg Theatre Announces 2021 Cantiamo Mzansi Opera Celebration
By David SalazarThe Joburg Theatre in South Africa and Marcus Desando have announced the second edition of the Cantiamo, Mzansi Opera Celebration.
The showcase will take place between April 21 and May 2, 2021 at the Mandela Theatre with audiences getting a chance to hear opera’s greatest arias and ensembles from such operas as “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” “Le Nozze di Figaro,”and “La Traviata.” Additionally, the performance will feature music by such composers as Mohau Mogale, Mzilkazi Khumalo, and Inkathazo Koloi.
Lyric soprano, Kimmy Skota, baritone Bongani Khubeka, mezzo-soprano Teresa de Wit, and tenor Phenye Modiane will be accompanied by Paul Ferreira on piano and the Vivacious Sounds Choir.
“The home-grown operatic talents of this country’s singers has showcased South African voices around the world and produced many internationally recognized opera stars. We are honored to celebrate unforgettable opera at the Mandela Theatre, in the company of four wonderful soloists accompanied by master pianist, Paul Ferreira.” said Joburg City Theatres CEO Xoliswa Nduneni Ngema in a press release.
The audience will be limited to 250 guests in order to maintain COVID-19 safety protocol and regulations.
