Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano is set for two major performances in New York City on March 8 and 28, 2024.

First up is the March 8 performance with the Brooklyn Chamber Music Society. The showcase will feature songs by Ravel and Rorem as well as works by Bach, Janácek, and Haydn. Cano is joined by flutist Tara Helen O’Conor, cellist Angela Park, and pianist Molly Morkoski.

The great challenge of this work is finding a myriad of colors to communicate the sensuality, warning of danger and languor of the three movements,” Cano said of interpreting the works of Ravel in an official press email.

Then on March 28, she heads to the Miller Theater to perform Bach’s Cantata in D major “Vergnügte Ruh’, beliebte Seelenlust,” BWV 170 alongside pianist Simone Dinnerstein.

“I always relish the opportunity to sing Bach and this cantata has been on my wish list for many years,” Cano noted. “I find the music to be profound and the messaging of searching for peace, comforting. Being invited to collaborate with Simone is such an honor and I’m greatly looking forward to working together for the first time.”
