Jamie Barton to Star in Met Opera ‘Don Carlos’ as Company Announces Spring 2022 Changes

The Met Opera has some announced some changes to its Spring 2022 season.

First up, Mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton is set to star in the Met Opera’s new production of “Don Carlos.”

She will take over for Elīna Garanča who was originally scheduled for the production which runs from Feb. 28- March 26, 2022. She will join a cast that includes Matthew Polenzani, Sonya Yoncheva, Eric Owens, and Étienne Dupuis. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the production by David McVicar.

Barton was set to star in “Rodelinda,” which is the subject of the company’s other major change.

“Due to scheduling challenges caused by the pandemic, the performance of Rodelinda planned for March 31, 2022, has been canceled,” the company announced.

No replacement for Barton in “Rodelinda” has been announced.
