By David Salazar

Sound Espressivo will present the world premiere of composer and pianist James Adler’s Lullaby for soprano, cello, and piano at the Sound Espressivo Laureate Gala at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on June 30, 2026.

The new work will be performed by soprano Shana Farr, cellist Igor Zubkovsky, and Adler himself at the piano.

“Lullaby” grew out of a collaboration between Adler and Farr that began in 2022, when he created a chamber orchestration of “That Star in the Picture” for her Albany Records album of the same name.

Farr is a Bistro Award recipient and two-time honoree from the Mabel Mercer Foundation, and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Town Hall, and London’s Westminster Abbey, among others.

The Laureate Gala program also features the Lehner String Quartet, pianists Zejin Cheng and Anirudh Baiju, trombonist Sergio Manteiga, guitarist and composer Simonetta Camilletti, Canadian Competition Grand Prize winner Panagiotis Fournarakis, soprano Marta Hadzimanov, pianist Frane Rusinovic, composer Ivan Violic, and inspirational speaker Shefik Macauley.

The program, commences at 7 p.m. local time, also include pieces by Liszt, Chopin, Brahms, Donizetti, Frank Martin, Smetana, and Moszkowski, among others.
