Jacaranda Music Announces Final Season

By David Salazar

Jacaranda Music has announced its final season.

In an official press statement, the Santa Monica-based company noted that following its 20th anniversary season, the organization will close permanently.

“The Board of Directors of Jacaranda Music has made the very difficult decision to permanently cease operations at the end of our 2023-24 season,” said Board Chair Frank Gruber. “After two decades of producing enlightening genre-mixing music programs, Jacaranda is grappling with a perfect storm of financial challenges, including the impact of reduced attendance and individual support following the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“Long before the pandemic hit concerned arts data crunchers warned the nonprofit field about organizational sustainability. Performing arts organizations with budgets under $500,000 and no endowment, such as Jacaranda, were deemed especially vulnerable to change,” added Artistic and Executive Director Patrick Scott.

Here is a rundown of the vocal performances of the “Planet Schoenberg” season.

First up is “Hanging Gardens,” which features Schoenberg’s “Hanging Gardens” and a chamber version of Mahler’s fourth symphony. Vocal soloists include Juilia Metzler and Katarzyna Sadek. They are joined by pianist Steven Vanhauwaert and conductor Mark Alan Hilt, who conducts the Jacaranda Chamber Ensemble.

Performance Date: Sept. 23, 2023

Baritone Luc Kleiner will be the reciter in “Transatlantic,” a showcase featuring works by Schoenberg, Schubert, Zeisl, Krenek, and Rathburn.

Performance Date: Oct. 22, 2023
