In his return to the Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, rising star Iván Ayón-Rivas encored “La Donna è mobile.”

During the first performance on June 13, the tenor received an ovation that led him to encore the famed Verdi aria.

It marked the second time the Peruvian singer encored an aria at Las Palmas. Back in 2020, he repeated “Una furtiva lágrima” in his three performances of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.”

In the company’s 56 years, there have been 13 encores. Ayón-Rivas joins a line of singers that include Giancarlo Stecchi, Piero Cappuccilli, Carlo Bergonzi, Plácido Domingo, Alberto Gazale, Nino Machaidze, Javier Camarena, Leo Nucci, Elisandra Melián, Massimo Cavalleti, and Antonio Chacón-Cruz. María José Siri became the first woman to encore, followed by Jessica Pratt.
