Isabel Leonard Leads Metropolitan Opera’s Holiday ‘Cinderella’

The Metropolitan Opera will continue its holiday season with a new installment in its series of abridged, English-language opera adaptations with Massenet’s “Cinderella.”

The opera, which will be performed eight times between Dec. 17, 2021 and Jan. 3, 2022, is directed by Laurent Pelly. The 90-minute abridged version with an English translation, based on the original French libretto, by Kelley Rourke will be conducted by Emmanuel Villaume and will star Isabel Leonard in her role debut as Cinderella.

Emily D’Angelo will sing the role of Prince Charming alongside Jessica Pratt who returns to the Met as the Fairy Godmother and Stephanie Blythe who reprises her Madame de la Haltière, which critics said, was “imposing” and her “voice packed a punch.” Laurent Naouri rounds out the cast as Pandolfe.

On Dec. 22, 2021, Julie Boulianne will sing the title role of Cinderella, Brandie Sutton will be the Fairy Godmotherand Samantha Hankey will star as Prince Charming.

“Cinderella” will be transmitted live to cinemas on Jan. 1, 2022, and will be broadcast over the Toll Brothers–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network. The Dec. 17 and 22, 2021 and Jan. 1, 2022, performances of “Cinderella” will also be broadcast live on Met Opera Radio on Sirius XM Channel 355.
