International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch (IVC) will feature “Theatre in Song,” a new competition that focuses on Lied and art song.

The idea for this new segment of the competition was created by IVC General and Artistic Director Andrew Watts, and it will take place on Sept. 26-28, 2025. Over those two days, 11 finalist duos will curate 45-minute programs. The final rounds are set for the 27 and 28th at the Theater aan de Parada in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The finalists will be mentored by leading experts who will help them curate their respective programs. All finalists will have to perform “When I Was” by Karmit Fadael as part of said program. The jury includes Iain Burnside, Yvonne Kenny, Robert Holl, Paul Kildea, Simon McBurney, Andrew Comben, and Corné Ran.

Additionally, there will be a performance by American soprano Claron McFadden and pianist Hans Eijsackers on Sept. 27, 2025. McFadden has performed at the Salzburg Festival, Festival d’Aix-en-Provencce, La Monnaie / De Munt, and De Nederlandse Opera, among others.
