‘In The Mouth of the Wolf’ To Get Showcase At Siskel Center in Chicago Tonight

With the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s current production of “Luisa Miller” underway, local audiences will get a chance to check out a fascinating experience related to the famed work at the Siskel Center on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019.

The event in question is a screening of “In the Mouth of the Wolf,” a unique “lost” documentary that follows the 1963 production of Verdi’s middle period opera at the legendary Teatro Parma.

The film was made for American television but disappeared after its first presentation. August Ventura, a filmmaker and journalist, who eventually found and recovered the film, which he has showcased over the years. Ventura will present the film and will also narrate the backstory of how the film was made, lost, rediscovered, and now restored.

“Luisa Miller” will play at the Lyric Opera of Chicago through Oct. 31, 2019 and stars Krassimira Stoyanova, Joseph Calleja, Quinn Kelsey, Christian Van Horn, and Solomon Howard, all under the musical direction of Enrique Mazzola. Francesca Zambello directs.
